Chapter 13 - The Secret Ledger of the Marcone Cartel

Following the courthouse victory, Gabriel and Claire returned to the command offices on the sixtieth floor of the Varrick Tower on Wall Street.
The panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows offered a sweeping view of the New York harbor, where dozens of massive container vessels glided peacefully through the calm waters.
In the center of the executive conference room, Marcus Brody had laid out eighty pages of decrypted financial manifests extracted from Salvatore Marcone’s private Swiss vault in Zurich.
"It’s an absolute sweep, Boss," Marcus reported, pointing his pen at the glowing terminal screens. "The Irish court certification completely severed Marcone’s remaining legal front companies. Every warehouse along the Hudson River, every transport license in New Jersey, and sixty-four million dollars in frozen liquid capital have been surrendered to the federal receiver."
Gabriel stood behind Claire’s chair, his hands resting warmly on her shoulders, leaning down to look at the screen.
"What is the total valuation of the recovered Donnelly patents, Marcus?" Gabriel asked.
"Two hundred and forty million dollars in international royalty reserves," Marcus answered with a wide, triumphant smile. "Claire is now the single largest private patent holder in transatlantic commercial shipping."
Claire looked at the glowing numbers, a profound, quiet stillness washing through her heart.
She remembered the freezing winter nights in her cramped Brooklyn apartment, counting pennies to buy groceries while her mother coughed in the dark bedroom. She remembered walking into Gabriel’s Tribeca penthouse with worn shoes and ten dollars in her purse, praying she could earn enough to pay for one month of insulin.
Gabriel knelt beside her chair, taking both of her hands into his large, calloused palms, his amber eyes burning with an ocean of fierce, tender devotion.
"Your father built the bridge, Claire," Gabriel whispered, his voice thick with raw emotion. "You walked across the fire to save my daughter. And today, your family’s honor stands taller than any skyscraper in this city."
Tears of pure, radiant healing spilled over Claire’s lashes as she squeezed his hands.

"I didn't do it for the patents, Gabriel," Claire smiled softly. "I did it because a little girl needed a mother’s voice in the dark."
"And that voice gave us our kingdom," Gabriel replied, leaning in to press a tender, sacred kiss against her forehead.
