Chapter 7 - THE HARBOR AT DAWN

By 5:00 AM, the storm clouds had broken over New York Harbor, revealing a crisp, steel-blue dawn that painted the water in shades of silver and gold.

At Brooklyn Terminal 4—the primary maritime freight hub controlled by Salvatore Marcone—the massive yellow gantry cranes stood frozen against the morning sky.

A convoy of six black armored Suburbans, accompanied by thirty armed Varrick tactical operators in dark uniforms, swept through the terminal security gates.

Salvatore Marcone—a sixty-five-year-old mob boss wearing an expensive fur-lined overcoat—stood on the concrete pier surrounded by twelve of his private bodyguards, holding a leather briefcase of bearer bonds, waiting for a private speedboat to take him to international waters.

The double doors of the lead Suburban flew open.

Gabriel Varrick stepped onto the pier.

He wore a dark charcoal wool trench coat over his suit, his hands resting calmly in his pockets, flanked by Dante and six heavily armed operators carrying suppressed tactical rifles.

Salvatore Marcone took half a step backward, his hand flying to his shoulder holster.

"Gabriel..." Marcone rasped, his voice rough and panicked. "We can negotiate! The Five Families council has a non-aggression pact! You cannot start a street war on the commercial piers!"

"The war ended twenty minutes ago, Salvatore," Gabriel replied smoothly, his voice carrying effortlessly across the freezing waterfront.

Gabriel tossed a silver USB drive onto the wet concrete at Marcone’s feet.

"Your offshore banking servers in Macau, your private smuggling manifests for the Brooklyn berths, and your signed contract with Victoria Vance were delivered to the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York forty-five minutes ago," Gabriel stated cleanly.

Sirens began to wail across the harbor.

Four marked federal patrol boats from the United States Coast Guard, accompanied by eight marked New York City Police Department cruisers, converged on Terminal 4 from land and sea, tactical searchlights pinning Marcone against his own shipping containers.

"UNITED STATES MARSHALS! WEAPONS ON THE GROUND! STEP AWAY FROM THE CONTAINERS!"

Salvatore Marcone stared at the federal agents swarming the pier, his knees trembling violently as his bodyguards tossed their weapons onto the concrete without firing a single shot.

Special Agent Marcus Reed of the FBI stepped forward, snapping heavy-gauge steel handcuffs over Marcone’s wrists.

Marcone looked up at Gabriel through the flashing blue lights, his face pale with utter, humiliating defeat. "You gave the feds our entire freight network... you destroyed your own shipping routes just to bury me?!"

Gabriel looked down at the old mob boss with absolute, icy detachment.

"You touched my daughter, Salvatore," Gabriel whispered softly. "I would burn the entire Atlantic Ocean to ashes to keep her safe."

Gabriel turned on his heel, climbed back into his vehicle, and sped away into the rising sun, leaving the broken empire of his enemies behind in chains.
