Chapter 7 - Blood and Brotherhood

The shot didn't hit Sophia.

Instead, a heavy, metallic clang echoed down the damp concrete tunnel, followed by a sharp, agonizing cry.

Sophia snapped her eyes open. Julian Romano wasn't standing tall anymore. He was stumbling backward, clutching his right shoulder as blood rapidly soaked through the expensive fabric of his trench coat. His tactical shotgun clattered uselessly against the concrete floor.

At the far end of the tunnel, framed by the dim red emergency lights, stood Aleandro Moretti.

His dark suit was dusted with gray concrete powder, a smear of fresh blood stained the collar of his white shirt, and his right hand held a smoking, custom-engraved Sig Sauer pistol. His face was a mask of such terrifying, cold fury that even Julian Romano—a man who had ordered dozens of executions without blinking—turned pale.

"You..." Julian gasped, pressing his hand against his bleeding shoulder. "You were supposed to be pinned down in the west wing..."

"Your men were amateurs, Julian," Aleandro’s voice was a low, lethal purr as he walked slowly down the tunnel, his boots clicking rhythmically against the stone. "Just like you."

Julian gritted his teeth, his eyes darting wildly toward his dropped weapon. With a desperate lunge, he dove for the shotgun.

Aleandro didn't even flinch. He raised his pistol with effortless, terrifying precision.

Bang.

The bullet struck the concrete an inch from Julian’s outstretched fingers, sending a violent spray of stone fragments into his hand. Julian screamed, pulling his hand back as he collapsed against the damp wall, defeated, bleeding, and utterly cornered.

Aleandro stopped right beside Sophia. Without taking his eyes off Julian, he reached out and gently touched Sophia’s arm, pulling her slightly behind him to shield her and the sleeping child.

"Are you hurt?" Aleandro asked, his voice softening just a fraction as he looked down at her.

Sophia shook her head, tears of pure adrenaline finally spilling over. "No... I'm okay. Emma's safe."

Aleandro nodded once. Then, his gaze snapped back to Julian Romano.

"You tried to poison my fiancée," Aleandro said coldly, stepping closer to the aging tycoon. "You tried to slaughter my guests. And most unforgivably... you pointed a gun at my blood."

"She’s a maid’s bastard!" Julian snarled, blood bubbling at the corner of his mouth. "You can't touch me, Aleandro! The syndicate commission will—"

"The commission is dead, Julian," Aleandro interrupted smoothly. "As of ten minutes ago, my men have seized every single asset, bank account, and dock belonging to the Romano family. You don't have a syndicate anymore. You have a shallow grave waiting for you in the East River."

Before Julian could scream, heavy footsteps echoed behind Aleandro as Marcus and a dozen heavily armed enforcers swarmed into the tunnel.

"Take him away," Aleandro ordered without looking back. "Lock him in the lower holding cells. We’ll have a family reunion... tomorrow morning."

May you like

As Marcus and his men dragged the screaming, cursing tycoon away into the darkness, the tunnel grew quiet again, save for the steady dripping of water from the ceiling.

Aleandro turned slowly around, looking down at Sophia and the tiny, sleeping girl in her arms. The hard, merciless mafia don vanished, replaced by a man looking at a world he had nearly lost forever.
